Providing help
Helping out post emergency
Many people are interested in helping the community recover after an emergency situation. The level of assistance required by a community post emergency will differ depending on the scale and type of emergency. Generally if volunteers are needed in the recovery phase they will need special skills or training. If you are interested in being involved, you really need to act before an emergency develops (see preparing for emergencies).
Donating Goods
People like to help out by making donations. However, despite being a generous gesture, donations of food, clothing and other material goods can create logistical problems for emergency managers e.g. finding places to store goods, finding ways to distribute goods.
A more useful way for you to assist is by making cash donations. Cash donations are flexible and can be quickly channelled to the greatest source of need. If you want to actively assist in the recovery of a community after a disaster, you could organise a fundraiser! The internet is a great source for fundraising ideas.
